Elena and Nikolai find this program easy enough to use, but they are still not quite sure that they know enough about all the things that it does.
A: To restore the original registry perform the following steps:
Step 1. Select: Start > Run.
Step 2. Type in regedit and press Enter to open the Windows Registry.
Step 3. Select: File > Import from the menu bar.
Step 4. Select the registry backup file you created previously.
Step 5. Click the Open button.
Q: If I uninstall this program, will the deleted material stay deleted?
A: Yes, CCleaner wipes files permanently.
Q: If I put CCleaner on my USB memory stick, is there any reason why I can't use it on a computer in an Internet café to erase traces of the work I've done there?
A: You would need to install CCleaner before you can use it on a computer. If the Internet café lets you install software, then yes, you can use it to wipe traces of work on that computer. If however you cannot install any programs, you should revert to using the IE Privacy Cleaner which is a mobile solution that you can carry on a USB memory stick and use without prior installation.
Q: If I only use one pass of CCleaner, will it be possible for somebody to recover my data? What about if I use 7 passes?
A: The more passes you set for wiping data, the less likely it is that anyone could recover it; however, the cleaning process will take longer.
Q: If I clean the Windows Registry, will it remove all traces of programs which I may have temporarily loaded onto my computer, and then removed? Some programs may be illegal in my country (for example, an encryption program), and I may want to disguise the fact that I have used them on my computer. Will CCleaner help me with this?
A: Yes. You should use the temporary file wiping along with cleaning the Windows Registry. This will remove all traces of software (and any operations you performed with it) which is no longer installed on the computer.
